A deadly car accident on the NJ Turnpike claimed the life of an off-duty New Jersey State trooper. Wyckoff Patch reports that the accident occurred near Vince Lombardi service area in Rutherford. Trooper Glenny Almonte was in his personal silver Honda Accord on the southbound side when it hit a curb and guardrail. The vehicle then collided with a southbound tractor-trailer.

Almonte was extricated from the car by Ridgefield Fire Department personnel and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. "The loss of Trooper Glenny Almonte saddens the entire State Police family," said State Police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes in a statement, according to Wyckoff Patch. "We are offering support to Trooper Almonte's loved ones as well as to all of our employees touched by this tragedy."

Almonte served out of the Totowa Station as a general duty trooper. He graduated from the State Police Academy in 2013. The accident is being investigated by the State Police Fatal Accident and Crime Scene Investigation units and Newark Station personnel.
